In collaboration with my colleagues, I was challenged to synthesize the key ideas in Chapter 3 and Chapter 7 of Why Don’t Students Like School? by Daniel T. Willingham. These chapters were titled “Why Do Students Remember Everything That’s on Television and Forget Everything I Say?” and “How Should I Adjust My Teaching for Different Learners?” which focused on cognitive research supporting learning and how it can be used to reach all learners.
We had to think critically about the most important ideas and how to express them succinctly as these videos had to be 3 minutes long, provide 3 key ideas of the chapter and 3 practical implications of these ideas for educators and for teaching (hence the title of 3 x 3 x 3). We also had to communicate these ideas in a form that would be clear, entertaining and applicable to all educators.
